'Delight' as Scotlandshire 2014 loses 75% of viewers in 2 days

By Skwaireyes McGeek, Our TV politics correspondent

delightProducers of the BBC in Scotlandshire's new flagship political programme "Scotland 2014" said they were "delighted" as viewers plunged from 89,000 for the first edition on Tuesday night to only 22,000 by Thursday.

"Losing three-quarters of our audience in only 2 days was beyond our wildest dreams!", exclaimed the programme's political adviser, Jim Murphy. "Sarah Smith's agent had told us that she was a 'bomb', but for her to bomb so dramatically is fantastic news."

He admitted, "I was one of those who agreed with Gordon Brown, that Wendy Alexander's idea of us calling an early referendum was really stupid.

After all, her brother told us what we wanted to hear. However, it's no clear she was right. In a short campaign, where people don't have a chance to learn the facts be subjected to propaganda, we would have won easily.

"As it is, the more we can close down debate, the greater chance of a No win. We are truly Better Together with ignorance."

However, not all MPs agree with Murphy's analysis that no debate means No. Chief Secretary (and Principal Typist) to the Treasury, Danny Alexander MP has tweeted "130 days & counting since my challenge to to debate with me – how long will he hide"?

Our political expert, John Poultice, found the timing of this tweet "extraordinaly stupid - so stupid that it could only have been posted by a graduate in stupidness from the University of Stupidity." Poultice continued, "It's as if Alexander had never heard of Professors Dunleavy and Young. Indeed comparing the Treasury analysis with their responses to it, that seems a certainty. In any case, why should the Chief Secretary (and Principal Typist) to the Treasury of the greatest Empire that the world has ever seen demean himself by wanting to debate with a council leader? What could such a person know about matters of State?"

Meanwhile, the BBC in Scotlandshire continues its cull of presenters who haven't made their reputation in London - Gary Robertson is the latest to be fired, to find the cash to pay Sarah Smith.

Media consultant, Teevee Thymes, expressed surprise that people had expressed surprise over the BBC being surprisingly happy over a new programme launch disaster. "The fundamental mistake is to think of the BBC in terms of their original charter as a 'public service broadcaster'. Sure, they still have that responsibility, and they carry it out for their public. Their 'public' is exactly the same as for any other commercial station - those who cough up the cash. In the BBC's case, their 'public' is the UK Government who set the licence fee. BBC management have always ensured that they serve their public with total loyalty.

departure"Fortunately, the BBC shows increasing signs of becoming independent of government. While they hid it for 12 years, their membership of the CBI has been critically important to the BBC to reposition themselves in the new media world.

As they themselve said ' the BBC has moved its membership to BBC Worldwide, recognising that in practice it is our commercial arm that generally leads on these matters.'

"What further evidence do you need, than their own words, that they are driven by private capital, not public service?

They have long been planning to secede from the UK, and and proving themselves void of any state control, or pretensions to democracy was fundamental to their application to join Fox News."
